The Michigan Chapter is proud to announce the recipient of the 2010 Chapter Meritorious Award! Read on for an exerpt from the form submitted to National recommending Veronica Malek as our honored volunteer of the year. We are so proud to have served on the board with her.  Veronica has not only been our Treasurer, but she has also been our treasure.

What are the reasons you selected your Chapter Meritorious recipient?

Veronica has worked hard to maintain compliance with National financial guidelines in the face of  past non-compliance by other volunteers. She has demonstrated personal integrity and AMTA professionalism. She has worked tirelessly to correct compliance, working with National staff and being discreet within our membership. On the strength of her convictions, she is responsible for our chapter being able to hold our heads high. We know that she carries the torch for Michigan, shining a light on our bookkeeping and keeping everything in the treasurer accounts unimpeachably aligned! Veronica has gone out of her way to mentor the person we hope will be our next treasurer. She has taken this step because she was approached to become the AMTA/MI treasurer when she was not even an AMTA member. Someone noticed that she had good bookkeeping skills and that we would soon need a new treasurer. Veronica was loyal and talented in her area, so she took the leap and became an AMTA member and started working with our chapters’ books before she even knew what membership meant, or what her duties would be. She does not wish for this to happen to another person; or to the chapters’ finances again, and has taken it upon herself to search out a suitable replacement for the position. She made sure that they had a look at what was required, became familiar with the job and its’ duties, and networked with other chapter treasurers at a National event. Now, that person is running for treasurer with full knowledge-what a concept!

So again, we congratulate Veronica for her professionalism and her mentorship in finding and training her replacement. It is my hope that all our current board members will do the same, so if you have questions about volunteering for a board position, don’t hesitate to contact us, we will be thrilled to mentor you along!!
